Hervé ROMANO
EDF
After a few years spent in the field of nuclear power plant maintenance, Hervé Romano joined EDF R&D to develop his expertise on the different aspects of waste recycling: regulations, technical and economic issues, hazards, environmental and health concerns. The waste concerned was mainly: coal fly ash, sediments for which he had to work with hydraulic engineering centers, demolition concrete, contaminated soils and sludge. Mr. Romano collaborated with university laboratories for experiments and government agencies to provide guidance on environmental acceptability.
Hervé Romano has extended his interests to other areas of circular economy action and he had the opportunity to join the new ISO 323 TC from 2019. He actively participated in the drafting of the ISO 59020 standard on the measurement and assessment of circularity, published in May 2024.
Since 2019, he has also been following the risk assessment related to the supply of strategic and critical raw materials for the EDF group with studies on specific materials or technologies. Mr. Romano also participates in various French committees on this subject: Strategic Metals Committee (COMES), Observatory of Mineral Resources of Industrial Sectors (OFREMI), Working Group on Critical Raw Materials of the Entrepreneurs’ Network (MEDEF) where he can meet different stakeholders.
